Lighting the Path to Healing: Remembering Our Children During Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month

October marks Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month, a time when we come together to remember the children we've lost, offer support to grieving families, and raise awareness about the often silent and misunderstood world of pregnancy and infant loss. One impactful event that embodies the spirit of this month is the annual Colorado Wave of Light.

The Colorado Wave of Light: Heaven Changes Everything

Every year, on a crisp October evening, families and individuals gather to participate in the Colorado Wave of Light. This event, now in its second year, serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of remembering our children who left us too soon.

Why Remembering Matters

Losing a child during pregnancy or infancy is a difficult experience, one that no parent should ever have to endure. Yet, countless families across the world face this heart-wrenching reality. In the midst of this pain, the act of remembrance can be a powerful source of healing. Here are three important reasons why:

1. Honoring Their Memory: Remembering our children allows us to pay tribute to their short but meaningful lives. It's a way to acknowledge that they existed, that they were loved, and that their memory lives on.

2. Healing Through Connection: Grief can be isolating, and parents who've experienced pregnancy or infant loss often feel alone in their pain. Events like the Colorado Wave of Light provide an opportunity for these families to come together, to share their stories, and to find solace in the company of others who understand their journey.

3. Restoring Hope: The path to healing is different for everyone, but remembering our children can help restore hope. It reminds us that while they may be gone, they are not forgotten, and that one day through Jesus, we will be reunited.

The Healing Power of Community

One of the most remarkable aspects of the Colorado Wave of Light is the sense of community it fosters. Families from all walks of life, who have experienced different types of loss, come together on this special night. They bring with them stories of love, loss, and resilience, creating a supportive environment where healing can begin.

A Message of Hope

The event includes a Remembrance Ceremony, a breathtaking display of Memorial Lights, a Resource Fair with supportive vendors, and an uplifting message of hope and healing. It's a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there is light, and there is hope. This year’s theme is “Heaven Changes Everything” with an encouraging message about how Jesus Christ offers us complete healing after loss.

Why We Must Remember

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month calls on us to break the silence surrounding this deeply personal and often stigmatized grief. It reminds us that we must acknowledge the pain of those who've lost children, offer them our support, and create a safe space for them to remember and heal.
